Shipping policy

Evelyn is based in the UK, and we currently offer shipping to the UK, USA, Australia and Canada. We sincerely apologise to our EU friends and hope to add this option in future! <3

 Here’s a quick guide to how shipping works and what you can expect when ordering.

DISPATCH TIMES 

Please note that all books are printed on demand, and are hand signed by Evelyn before shipping out. Please allow up to six weeks (particularly for special editions) for your books to be dispatched. You will receive an e-mail to confirm once your order has shipped, with tracking information. 

UK DOMESTIC SHIPPING

Shipping options may be selected at checkout. Couriers include Royal Mail and DPD. A tracking number will be sent via email when your books are dispatched, and no additional fees are payable. 

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

USA

SIGNED BOOKS – TARIFFS AND DUTIES (UK-USA)

·       All books are shipped as printed books and are clearly declared as such for US customs under HTS Code 4901.99.0090 (Printed Book – Fiction).

·       We may also include a Chapter 99 Exemption code (9903.01.31 – Informational Materials Exemption) to be on the safe side.

Good news:
Printed books are duty-free when entering the United States. This means:

• You should NOT be charged import tariffs on your books
• Most orders arrive without additional fees
• The UK is currently subject to an additional 10% tax, but books are already exempt from this (we may add a Chapter 99 note to the customs form to make this very clear!)

Each parcel is accurately declared with the correct customs information to help ensure smooth delivery.

The situation in the US is changing frequently, and we are aware that some readers have been incorrectly charged for their books when purchasing elsewhere due to confusion from border officials.

We’re doing everything we can to make the exemption for books *extremely* clear for customs checks, and we are testing sending parcels as DDP (Delivered Duties Paid). While we'll do everything we can to ensure no additional charges are added, we are unable to pay any fees added by couriers. 

FREEBIES! (And those pesky tariffs)

From time to time, your order may include a small extra(s) such as:

• Bookmarks
• Stickers
• Art prints

These are included as complimentary items to enhance your order and are not sold separately as part of the shipment.

Your parcel is still classified and declared as a book shipment.

We have decided not to offer Evelyn’s signing swag bags for purchase online due to the difficulty in classification for tariff and duty purposes.

Please note that any items are included based on current availability and we cannot accept requests for specific items. Thank you for understanding <3

ORDERING SIGNED BOOKPLATES

Shipping is expensive, and we have a bookplate option available for international customers who may wish to buy signed bookplates for existing books. The postage cost for these is built into the price, and no additional postage is payable. 

These are treated differently by US customs.

Unlike books, these items may:

• Be subject to import duties or tariffs
• Incur a small handling fee on delivery

This doesn’t happen in every case, but it is something US customers should be aware of when ordering.

To avoid any border confusion, bookplate purchases will be sent separately to any physical book orders to avoid tariffs being incorrectly applied to the whole order.

IMPORTANT NOTES

• All customs forms are completed accurately and honestly
• We do not undervalue items or mark orders as gifts
• Any import fees are set by US customs and are outside our control

DELIVERY TIMES

Typical delivery time to the US:

• 3–5 working days once dispatched
• Courier options may be faster

Please allow additional time during busy periods or for customs processing.

• We do not use Evri or FedEx for US shipping 
• Our preferred USA carriers are USPS (Print) for orders under 5kg, or UPS (Express Saver) for orders above 5kg. We regularly review suppliers and this is subject to change if a preferable option becomes available
• Parcels weighing 20kg+ may be split to protect contents – no additional costs are payable
• USA book only orders are sent DDP (Delivered Duties Paid).
• USA bookplate orders are sent separately to book orders and are DDU (Delivered Duties Unpaid). Postage for this is included in the cost of the bookplates.
